Together with Darling, I’ve been trying out loads of different japanese sweets and snacks.
The culture is sort of aimed toward soft and sticky tastes (much like shown in Yakitate!! Japan) when it comes to bread and food and so on. You can’t really find any darker type breads here (I’ve seen some kind of grain thingie but it would still be considered white bread back home), and most have a kind of sticky texture inside. Which is really nice by the way.
In fact, we live like 50 meters from a bakery that tempts us with this crazy delicious smell every single morning. We’ve tried lots of different ones, like chocolate cornets (as seen in Lucky Star!) and banana-cream-filled ones and so on. Oh, and melonbread too. There are bakeries everywhere and most convenience stores (which are even more everywhere) have a selection of baked goods too. Feels like the excess of sugar is making me addicted, but on the other hand we’ve been walking a lot so it should really be ok.
Darling found a chocolate named Black Ghana (by Lotte) which tastes exactly like mudcake, but in chocolate bar form. Also there’s loads of Pocky at decent prices and so on. Haven’t really been able to find any dark chocolate, like the swiss and belgian ones that are everywere in Europe.. Also, cocoa, sugar, butter and flour is really expensive so making cakes and so on at home doesn’t seem to be an option.
Anyway, it’s been fun to try out all the new and previously unseen types of sweets around here. I think the green tea ice-cream is my favorite completely new one so far.
